This organization is all about project oriented caving. That means we locate, record, explore, conserve and study the caves and related features of Missouri. The data generated is then used to facilitate and coordinate other studies and is sometimes published in our journal MoSpeleo and/or presented at grotto meetings or conferences of like minded cavers, associated agencies, and sometimes to the public. If you are looking at this web site for cave locations, to be entertained, or interactively engaged with games or social media you will probably be disappointed. Research projects typically progress very slow, are a labor of love and personal expense and frequently take several years to produce consumable results such as maps, statistical data or scientific papers. Up to date information is usually not available unless you are involved in the projects, reported in grotto newsletters, discussed on MoCaves (an e-mail based discussion group) or the Cave Files Reports on this web site. Discussions with cavers at grotto meetings are also a good place to gain info and get involved with project. Listed in this area is information about on-going and past projects that have been reported to the administrator of this web site. He does not create this information, the cavers involved in these projects do. If this information is out of date and not updated and you are in a position to do so, please do. If you are not involved in a project and want to know more, get involved. Contact a representative of a member grotto (listed here as Directors of the MSS) or any Officer of the MSS and ask them to tell you who to contact for more information or how to get involved in a project. |
