Missouri Speleological Survey

Files Report for October, November, and December 2006

Maps received from Bob Taylor included Bat/Ritter Cave, Greene County, from 1977/1982; Coffin Cave, Greene, 2004 by Bob, Jack Roesenketter, Charity Gramm, Jon Beard, and a couple more folks whose name escapes me as I write this, far from home; Cozy Cave, Greene County, from 1969; Deconstruction Cave, a sketch map of a in-process-of-being-destroyed cave in Taney County by Bob and Roy Gold; Flatroom Cave (complex little thing in Greene County), by Taylor, Beard, Kirby Tiller, and Tom Morton from 2001; Glenn Annex Cave, Christian County from 2006 by Bob and Roy; and a redraft of Moss Cave, Greene County, from 1975.

Amber Spohn sent a map of Headwall Cave , Stone County , surveyed by Amber and Ben Miller.

Dan Lamping sent a map of Benton Slope Cave map, Ozark Riverways in Shannon County , surveyed by Dan, Ray Mallinckrodt, and Joel Laws. Dan also sent a map of Hog Cave , Shannon County surveyed by Mark Andrich, Matt Platter, and Bob Panian.

I can’t remember if I previously mentioned a new map showing In and Out Caves , Laclede County , by Bill Copeland, assisted by Todd Heintz. Bill also sent in maps of Mayfield Caves 1 & 2 in Laclede County .

A clarification of Texas County new caves submitted by Joel Laws and Ray Mallinckrodt uncovered a duplication of caves, which is good, because this thing has happened a lot in the past and it is good that we are intercepting duplications now, before they get institutionalized. Ray also had locations for two new Shannon County caves, one inside the Scenic Riverways; the other is probably on Pioneer Forest land..

Bob Taylor and Roy Gold have been busy. They sent in information on caves in the Ozark Scenic Riverways, including a new one. Roy Gold sent a location for Dickerson Park Cave in Greene County . Roy also sent locations for a new cave in Webster County and a new cave in Newton County .

A field trip report from Dante Fenolio of the University of Miami included information on a number of caves visited. Dante, assisted by Mike Slay, was investigating grotto salamanders and grabbing some spare DNA to help with genetic studies.

Bill Elliott sent a location revision and description on a Carter County cave of interest. Bill also forwarded new photos of a Crawford County cave. If someone wants to investigate, let me know.

Gary Johnson sent an improved lat/long location for Little Hamilton Cave in Washington County .

Jon Beard sent a list of location corrections for Webster County . At least two caves actually made their way back into the county instead of being accidentally located in other counties. Honest.

Eric Hertzler sent locations on five new caves in Camden County and an improved location on another.

We lost Arrow Point Cave in Miller County . Well, okay, it was in the data twice, once under its original name, which is now restored as the primary name. Thanks, Alberta !

Mike Skinner of the MDC sent information on a cave lead east of Springfield which will be a new cave if someone goes and investigates.

Kris Hartman of SEMO continues to send lots of good information in the form of new GPS locations, new caves, and incidental information from Perry County .

Jon Beard and Jerry Vineyard sent information on the name change of Doling City Park Cave back to the original (landowner’s) name of Giboney Cave .

Randy Long sent a better location and description of the hunt for Pig Pen Cave in Butler County . Randy also sent three new cave locations and reports from Shannon and Reynolds Counties .

Tom Panian sent a nice report on a cave in Shannon County on Pioneer Forest land.

Some months back, Andy Free had entered a bunch of reports from Pulaski that I probably failed to acknowledge and finally integrated into the database.

A report on a new cave in Jefferson County came into DGLS from the owner and was forwarded on by Spike Crews.

Matt Goska sent a report on a new cave in Wright County , certainly an area that needs more work.

More new caves in Perry County came from Al Quamen, Kris Hartman and me. For those keeping count, Perry County has about (changes weekly) 666 caves, about 100 more than Shannon .
