Missouri Speleological Survey

Files Report for October - December 2007

Jon Beard sent a new location for Dickerson Cave in Dade County which was passed on from a non-caver. Jon also sent a new description of Onyx Cave in Barry County.

Dan Drees, wildlife biologist for MDC, sent a location and photo for a new cave in the Ozark Riverways. There has been a lead on this cave for, well, about 20 years but it is in a remote area that few people get to.

Rhonda Rimer sent a couple of new cave locations in. She followed this up with a few incidental reports on trips to caves in various places. For those who do not know Rhonda, she is the natural history biologist for MDC in the Ozark Region and works out of West Plains.

Jim Conley tracked down a missing cave in the Irish Wilderness of Oregon County, found it and photographed it as well. Good to have that one off the list. Now he’s headed out to find some more! (And so he did, turning in a new cave from Benton County.)

Roy Gold sent information on a cave in Webster County . Wet but wide and goes…

Ben Miller sent locations of five new caves in Barry County plus a better location for Cathedral Cave in Crawford and a much better location for a cave that we had a name for and a poor location only.

Dan Lamping sent a nice map of Road Kill Cave in Jefferson County. Nice little cave with about 300ft of passage. This is not to be confused (as I have) with Roadcut Waterfall Cave in the same county.

Mick Sutton turned in maps of Still Spring Cave on Forest Service land. The map was penciled by Doug Baker; Mick did the final draft in Illustrator and it is a work of art. The survey went on for many years, led by Doug Baker with George Bilbrey and Steve Irvine chief among the many participants. The cave, which is gated and closed to traffic, has a surveyed length of 3.65 miles. Mick also sent maps of Mill Hollow Shelter and Blowing Spring Cave in Taney County.

Eric Hertzler sent in maps and more descriptions of Camden County Caves. One of the maps was Road Cut Cave in Camden. (Not be confused with various caves in road cuts in Jefferson County.) Alan Leary of MODOT also sent a description of Road Cut Cave.
