Files Report for April – June, 2009

Andy Free sent an improved location for a FS cave in Pulaski County.

Josh Brewer sent in several Ben Miller maps (Josh finished the drafting on them): Flower Pot Cave and Little Ginger Blue Cave from McDonald County , and Cricket Cave , Taney County .

Ben sent in a map of Crescent Cave, Stone County. Ben also sent in, a while back, maps of Big Ginger Blue Cave, McDonald County; Combine Cave and Thistle Cave, Boone County; Creekside Cave in Barry County; Mullen Cave #2 and Notched Bluff Cave in Crawford County, and Old Soldiers Cave in Taney County.

Chad McCain sent in GPS coordinates for a couple of known caves in Reynolds County. We can always use GPS coordinates, folks, these help our data integrity.

Bill Elliott sent in a location for a secondary entrance to Ralphord (or Rutherford) Cave in Boone County .

Philip Moss sent a location correction for a cave in Perry County.

Jon Beard sent in a map and report on Cox Cave, Lawrence County. Jon also sent a note about a couple of caves in Dade County that needed removing from the files, so to speak. In fact, they weren’t even in Dade County, they safely ensconced in Greene County where they also had cave names and numbers. So Dade lost a couple…

Mick Sutton sent in several location improvements on MTNF land.

Mick sent in a lengthy history of cave radium mining in Barry County . This is a neat compilation of the history of several failed ventures to excavate caves for their radioactive material, most of which was emanating from the Chattanooga shale.

Randy Long sent a nice report on a forest service cave in Pulaski County . Randy also sent in a new cave location, photo, and report from Ripley County, which now has all of 13 caves (note that the Current and Little Black Rivers flow through the county!) Randy also sent in a new cave location from Crawford County. This is a reasonably sized cave with one large entrance and at least one other. More proof that they are still out there (like you needed more proof).

Rhonda Rimer of MDC  sent a nice report on Trantham Cave, Oregon County.

I got kinda behind this summer with way too much bureaucratic paperwork so if you sent something in and don’t see it here, well, I’m working even as I write and I’ll get to it as soon as possible.
